How the new coronavirus devastated JBS slaughterhouses in Brazil

In a special report released via Reuters, reporter Ana Mano explains how JBS SA, the world’s largest meat processor, vowed to feed the world as the pandemic progressed. Company executives say that JBS added more than 15,000 new employees to Brazil in 2020 for the production of chicken, red meat and beef, many of which are destined for export markets. The company reported $ 629 million in net earnings for the quarter. Almost double what market analysts expected.

This comes at a huge cost: More than 4,000 JBS workers in Brazil tested positive for COVID-19 and six died, according to records from local fitness authorities and data amassed through hard-working Brazilian prosecutors.
