Explaining the protective procedures, Ajmal Pulikkal, head of production at Golden Loaf Bakery, told Gulf News: “We take extra precautions to make sure our baked goods are treated as safely as possible. The popular safety procedure begins before our staff enter our Temperature Test is performed at the door, then all staff are taking all personnel to a domain where they wash their hands, disinfect and wear disposable gloves, masks, aprons, nets and other mandatory protective clothing.
Pulikkal said that physical distance is also practiced while bakers are in paintings. “Our bakery in Sharjah has giant land and we ask our staff to get as far away as possible. It’s also not for chatting on paints to avoid aerosols spreading through the air,” he added.
The bakery operates on two teams, 24 hours a day. At least seven five painters paint in turn from five a. m. and five p. m.
Pulikkal said: “Regular monitoring of staff temperature takes place during the day. If someone feels bad or has a maximum temperature, we have a compromised position in which they can be temporarily isolated. But so far, no member of our production team has become inflamed with the virus».
Suresh Kurup, senior director and chief financial officer, said: “According to fitness experts, food is the source of a coronavirus infection. But we can never be too careful. That’s why we make sure everyone follows safety procedures. “
“Because we are in the food sector, we are stricter at hygiene practices, such as washing hands before and after handling baked goods. All kitchen surfaces and equipment, machinery, are also disinfected regularly,” he added.
However, strict security measures are not sufficient. Pulikkal said they were also sending their baked goods for random testing to an external laboratory. “The laboratory checks microbiological parameters and checks whether we are meeting municipal food needs and the G. S. O. or Gulf Standard Organization. “
“Everyone wants to be informed of the risks of COVID-19, so we’re also committed to bringing online education to combat COVID-19,” Pulikkal and Kurup said.
They noted that more than 30 bakery workers have completed an online education program and have been certified by Mohammed Bin Rashid University (MBRU) for Medicine and Health Sciences as a component of their Community Immunity Ambassador program.
“Some of our workers have been trained online to be fully aware of the COVID-19 challenge and precautionary measures and have been rated as network immunity ambassadors. They were then assigned the task of sharing security protocols with their colleagues,” they added.
Mustafa Al Husseiny, Managing Director of Golden Loaf, said: “As we are in the bakery industry and our workers deliver our products in the United Arab Emirates, it is imperative to exercise them.
