Texas exceeded 600,000 COVID-19 instances Tuesday after reporting 6,792 new instances for a total of 606,530, according to a Houston Chronicle’s investigation of state data. The number of COVID-19 deaths in the state increased from 179 recently reported deaths to 11,899 statewide.
After a network outage caused a verification knowledge outage Monday, the state resumed posting verification information Tuesday and reported that the Texas positive verification rate is now 15.42%. The moving average of viral controls is 31,988, while the moving average for new instances is 5,135.3.
In the Houston area, cases increased from 1,470 to 145,698 overall, while deaths were highest from 57 to 2,726 overall. Harris County has reported 881 new cases and now has a total of 100,171 cases.
Due to the potential risk of Hurricane Laura, coVID-19 sites in the city are closed Wednesday and Thursday, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said Tuesday on Twitter.
