Household food waste – COVID-19

A new report suggests Canadians could waste 13. 5% more food at home since the pandemic began.

The average Canadian family wasted just over 2kg in the week before the pandemic. With most of our lives replaced and most Canadians spending more time at home since March, many wonder if Canadians are generating food waste at home. This survey on biological household food waste examines the amount of food Canadians are wasting compared to before the pandemic. We are also at points similar to COVID and other points that can lead to more food waste at home. In partnership with Caddle, a total of 8272 Canadians were surveyed between August 21 and 23, 2020.
