The Honduran country is considering moving its embassy to Tel Aviv, Reuters reported on Monday, bringing out Honduras’ foreign ministry.
The announcement came a day after Honduran Foreign Minister Enrique Reina met with Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister Riad Malki in Bogota.
The Honduran embassy moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem a year ago through former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez.
The move came after the United States, a close friend of Honduras, moved its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem for then-President Donald Trump.
But Hernandez resigned in January and replaced him through Xiomara Castro, who expressed “interest” in taking flight at the Jerusalem embassy.
“The factor of moving the embassy to Tel Aviv has already been discussed with the president [Castro] and is an issue that interests him, as well as maintaining a balanced dating with other Arab countries and Israel,” Reina said in a statement.
