Honduran official: Embassy front in Jerusalem

Honduras’ plan to move its Israeli embassy to Jerusalem has been delayed through COVID-19, but will advance in the coming days, the country said Wednesday.

Honduran Chancellor Lisandro Rosales Banegas told local media that the resolution would be taken in conjunction with the arrival in Honduras of an Israeli ambassador, who said he hoped soon.

The announcement comes as a result of a reorganization in Tegucigalpa, which involves new assignments at embassies around the world.

Honduras, headed by President Juan Orlando Hernández, has changed towards closer technological and economic ties with Europe, as with Israel, leading to a number of appointments for key ambassadors.

Hernandez announced the opening of an industrial project to the Israeli capital in March 2019 and then, in September of the same year, arrived in Israel to inaugurate it.

In August, Israeli Chancellor Gabi Ashkenazi opened Israel’s official representative in Honduras at a virtual meeting.

“The Israeli workplace in Honduras will sell joint projects in the areas of economics and development,” the Israeli Chancellery said in a statement.
