HMPV case in India: “Don’t panic, keep in mind”, Karnataka’s advisor says “a virus as transmissible as Covid”

HMPV instances in India: After the detection of two instances of human metapneumovirus (HMPV) in the state, the Karnataka government on Monday suggested other people not to panic, as the virus is not as transmissible as Covid-Director of medical education, Karnataka, issued an advisory titled “Don’t Panic, Be Mindful” after two HMPV instances were reported in Bengaluru.

The official also adds that the HMPV virus is spread by respiratory droplets, close non-public contact and tactile contacts infected with the virus followed by touching the mouth, nose or eyes.

• Wearing a mask in crowded spaces can threaten transmission.

According to the Karnataka government’s statement, there is no express antiviral remedy or vaccine for HMPV.

Management focuses on relieving symptoms with supportive care, adding rest, hydration, and medication over pain, fever, and congestion.

Severe instances would possibly require hospitalization for treatment of oxygen or IV fluids.
