Hilo nursing home outbreak 93 cases of COVID

A Hilo nursing home has faced an outbreak of COVID-19, which has resulted in 93 cases and one death.

The Hawaii Department of Health said it notified the outbreak in early April at the Life Care Center in Hilo and provided technical assistance to the facility.

To date, the facility has reported a total of 93 cases, adding 76 citizens and 17 employees. One resident who was tested for COVID died after being taken to the hospital, according to the DOH.

Following the implementation of improved infection measures in consultation with the DOH, the number of new cases has slowed.

The DOH said there were no known new cases last week.

The center, a qualified nursing and rehabilitation facility, also experienced pre-pandemic outbreaks, in October 2020 and the summer of 2021.
