I greet you all with the utmost cordiality and thank you for your welcome to this Forum for Dialogue organized under the patronage of His Majesty the King of Bahrain. This country takes its call from its waters: the so-called Bahrain means “two seas”. It reminds us of the waters of the sea, which unite lands and nations and unite remote peoples. As an old saying goes, “What the earth divides, the sea unites. “The Earth, seen from above, appears as a vast blue sea linking other shores. From the skies, it reminds us that we are indeed one family: not islands, but a wonderful archipelago. This is how the Most High needs us, and this country, which is an archipelago of more than thirty islands, could well symbolize this desire.
However, we live in a time when humanity, hooked as never before, seems far more divided than united. Here too, the so-called “Bahrain” can be thought: the “two seas” of which it speaks refer to the brand new waters of its underwater springs and the brackish waters of the Gulf.
Today, similarly, we stand in front of two seas with very different waters: the calm and gentle sea of a serene life in common, and the salty sea of indifference, marred by confrontations and swept by the winds of war, its increasingly tumultuous wave destroyers, threatening to overwhelm us all.
Tragically, East and West increasingly resemble two opposing seas. We, on the other hand, are here combined because we all intend to navigate in the same waters, opting for the path of encounter than confrontation, the path of discussion indicated through the name of this Forum: “East and West for Human Coexistence”.
After two terrible global wars, a bloodless war that has kept the global on tenterhooks for decades, catastrophic conflicts around the world, and amid accusations, threats and condemnations, we continue to stand on the edge of a sensitive precipice and do not need It’s a startling paradox that, while the majority of the world’s population is united to face the same difficulties, Suffering severe food, ecological and pandemic crises, as well as scandalous global injustice, a few potentates are caught in a resolute struggle for partisan interests, returning to outdated rhetoric, redefining spheres of influence and opposing blocs.
These will be the bitter consequences if we continue to escalate the clash instead of perceiving, if we persist in obstinately asserting our own despotic, imperialist, nationalist and populist models and visions, if we do not care about the culture of others, if we cover our ears to the call of others and the voice of the poor, If we continue to simplistically divide others into intelligent and bad, if we do not strive to perceive and cooperate for the intelligent of all. These are the possible options to be had with us since, in a globalized world, we only advance rowing together; If we sail alone, we drift.
The Creator invites us to act, especially in favor of all his many creatures who still do not find a sufficient place in the table of times of the powerful: the deficient, the unborn, the elderly, the sick, the migrants. . . If we, who in God of mercy do not listen to the deficient and voice to the mute, who will?Let us take their side; Let us do all we can to help a wounded and hard-attacked humanity! In doing so, we will draw upon our world the blessing of the Most High. May he remove darkness from our path and unite our hearts, minds and strength, so that our worship of God may possibly be accompanied by a concrete and fraternal love of neighbor. Together may we be prophets of community, promoters of unity and promoters of peace.
