The Health Resources and Services Administration will distribute $350 million to fund COVID-19 vaccination efforts at gyms, the Department of Health and Human Services firm said Tuesday.
The announcement comes a week after President Joe Biden asked Congress for the third time to make more COVID-19 budgets to prepare for a winter surge, boost long-term COVID research, expand new vaccines and treatments, and ease the transition from vaccines and therapeutics to the advertising market. Congress did not hand over the money Biden had asked for in the past because of objections from Republican lawmakers.
“This budget will ensure that others living in underserved communities have access to updated COVID-19 vaccines this winter through community vaccination events hosted by health care providers and organizations they trust,” HRSA Administrator Carole Johnson said in the press release. .
HRSA-funded community gyms and those who won the investment from the U. S. bailoutU. S. citizens are eligible for the money. The firm encourages gyms to increase hours of operation and off-site vaccination sites, in addition to expanding transportation and translation services.
The national COVID-19 vaccination crusade collapsed after the call for when vaccines were first made to the general public last year.
As of Nov. 15, more than 228 million people received their first two vaccines and 35. 3 million people over the age of five received bivalent boosters, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. About 80% of the population has gained at least one dose, while 11. 3% have gained all available vaccines, adding the latest booster. On November 15, about 40,000 more people received COVID-19 vaccines, up from 1. 6 million in the same period in 2021.
Nationally, 280,711 new cases of COVID-19 were reported last week and hospitalizations were up 1. 7% from the past seven days, the CDC reported.
