After Saudi Arabia’s shocking victory, several unlikely bets were shared on social media. Sports betting journalist Darren Rovell pointed to a bet through a PointsBet user who predicted that Argentina would win at halftime and Saudi Arabia would win the game. The $20 bet was paid out. $4,000.
PointsBet shared that Saudi Arabia is on the list with odds of 125 to one after Argentina took a 1-0 lead in the game, making the comeback the biggest upheaval in World Cup history.
BetMGM, a joint venture between Entain and MGM Resorts International MGM, said on Twitter that the biggest upheaval in World Cup history had occurred, adding that Argentina had not lost a World Cup it had led since 1958.
FanDuel, a unit of Flutter Entertainment PDYPY, said one visitor bet $1,000 on Saudi Arabia after beating Argentina 0-1. The bet paid out $21,000.
SkyBet, a British company also owned by Flutter, shared that 28 of its consumers had bet that Saudi Arabia would win the game with a score of 2-1, which yielded 80 to one.
Saudi Arabia, ranked 51st in the world, declared Wednesday 23 November a national holiday for public sector workers and students. They will celebrate the country’s “impressive victory” over Argentina.
Many in the United States may not have seen the game and instead heard the news of the defeat. The game aired at five a. m. ET on FS1, a unit of Fox Corporation FOXFOXA. The game also aired in Spanish on Telemundo and streaming platform Peacock, two assets owned by Comcast Corporation CMCSA.

And then: Argentina’s defeat rules them out for the rest of the tournament, as it represents one of the 3 games at the organizational level before the playoffs.
Argentina is the team that bets the most to win the 2022 World Cup in DraftKings, according to Rovell. A total of 25% of dollar bets deal with Argentina’s victory in the tournament. Fourteen % of the bets placed, in number of bets, are for Argentina, the only favorite of the tournament, Brazil, with 17% of the bets.
Caesars Sportsbook, a unit of Caesars Entertainment CZR, said Argentina is the team with the top bet to win the World Cup in percentage price tickets through Nov. 18 at 17 percent, ahead of the U. S. The U. S. and Brazil tied at 14 percent. Argentina had 27 percent of bets as of Nov. 18, qualifying first, ahead of Brazil and the United States with 15 percent and 13 percent respectively.
Before the match between Argentina and Saudi Arabia, the chances of the groups in Group C were as follows, with chances of winning the group, leaving the group, going to the quarterfinals, advancing to the quarterfinals and winning the 2022 World Cup:

After Saudi Arabia’s unexpected win over Argentina, the other qualifier in Group C played Poland and Mexico drawing 0-0, earning a point for both teams. The classification of Group C is now:
Saudi Arabia: 3 points
Poland: 1 point
Mexico: 1 point
Argentina: 0 points
Argentina will play two more matches in the organizational phase, facing Mexico and Poland with chances of finishing in the two most sensitive and advancing.

Argentina remains the favorite to win the organization and advance. The defeat had an effect on the overall chances of winning the 2022 World Cup, but not much.
Argentina now has 800 odds to win the 2022 World Cup, Brazil with 275, England with six hundred and France with 750.
Argentine star Lionel Messi, who scored his team’s only goal on Tuesday, is ranked with the third-best odds for the Golden Boot (most goals) for the tournament with 1,000, Brazil’s Neymar and France’s Kylian Mbappe.
Argentina is the favorite bet of Benzinga’s workers to win the 2022 World Cup, and also selected the winner through a simulation in Electronic Arts EA’s FIFA23 video game.
