Because water is a commodity, Save the Children’s Fitness provides clean water and promotes fitness and hygiene, as well as planting and developing crops and raising animals. In addition, we have worked to introduce fruit and vegetable gardens in schools, homes, and communities, helping families grow their own food for greater nutrition.
Save the Children’s coverage staff have been helping vulnerable communities in Batey for about a decade. The objective of the mission was to explore the living conditions of the former “Les Bateys” sugar cane labor camps, which house Haitian, Dominican migrant workers and their families.
The task focused on fitness, schooling, and income-generating activities. Improvements included the renovation of schools, the improvement of teachers’ knowledge, the reorganization of fitness infrastructure, and other tasks committed to obtaining better living standards and promoting sustainable development.
