The Department of Health is very unhappy to announce the timing of COVID-19-related death on so many other days.
The ministry can verify that former Cook Islands Prime Minister Dr. Joseph Williams QSO died last at Auckland Hospital.
Dr. Williams, 80, was also a widely recognized fitness member in New Zealand and the Cook Islands and was the head of the Pasifika Medical Association.
The Director General of Health, Dr. Ashley Bloomfield, described him as a well-known politician, physician and author.
“Dr. Williams is considered a prominent figure in the Cook Islands medical network and we will miss him very much.”
Dr. Williams entered Auckland City Hospital on August 13 and died last night.
“Our mind is with your circle of relatives and net at this time of mourning and bereavement.
“Today’s sad news, once back, reinforces the importance of our shared vigilance against COVID-19, the very serious consequences that the virus can cause and the measures we all want to take to prevent the spread, break any chain of transmission and avoid death.. “
This is that the number of COVID-19-like deaths in New Zealand is now 24.
