Health Canada issued a public warning after claiming that counterfeit COVID-19 immediate kits were discovered in Ontario.
The firm claims that the counterfeit tests were sold online in boxes of 25 through a distributor called Healthful Plus with the required license.
Indicates that the packaging looks authentic from BTNX Inc. and uses the device identifier “COV-19C25”, but also has several key differences.
These come with the manufacturer indexed as Health Advance Inc. instead of BTNX Inc. ; Health Advance is indexed as an “Official Canadian Distributor”; and the addition of the text “Approved through Health Canada” in the box.
Health Canada says it has evaluated the protection and effectiveness of counterfeit kits.
The firm says anyone who suspects they have a counterfeit kit deserves to chorus and instead report it, either to the government or to btnx.
Health Canada says the challenge appears to be limited to one manufacturer, Health Advance Inc. , and one distributor, Healthful Plus. It claims that Health Advance no longer appears to be manufacturing medical devices and that Healthful Plus has been phased out.
