Northeast Nigeria is experiencing some of its worst flooding in years with an estimated 500 people killed and thousands of homes destroyed.
The flooding was aggravated by seasonal rains and the expected discharge of water from a dam in neighboring Cameroon.
The Lagdo Dam is located in northern Cameroon and was built in 1982. Nigeria had intended to build its own dam to offset the surplus, but never finished it.
So what has been the government’s reaction to the devastation?
