Hamas, which has had Gaza since 2007, said the rockets were a “direct reaction to the escalation of the Israeli occupier.”
Bassem Naim, a Hamas official, warned of further escalation and said that “catastrophic situations in the Gaza Strip are unprecedented.” He said the stage can lead to an “explosion where things get out of hand.”
Israel has introduced a new wave of retaliatory raids “additional Hamas Army targets” in Gaza, adding a “weapons production site,” the army said.
According to Palestinian sources, Israeli warplanes attacked a position and point belonging to the Qassam Brigades, the armed arm of Hamas, in Gaza and Rafah.
Israel has been bombing Gaza almost since August 6 in what it says is a reaction to airborne incendiary devices and, less frequently, to rockets introduced across the border.
Incendiary bombs, uncooked contraptions installed in balloons, kites, inflated condoms or plastic bags, have more than 400 fires in southern Israel, according to firefighter figures.
The incendiary balloons are widely noted as an attempt through Hamas to situations of a casual truce under which Israel has pledged to ease its 13-year blockade in exchange for calm at the border.
But so far, Israel’s reaction has been to intensify the blockade.

Mediation efforts have become more urgent in recent days, as the Gazan government has detected the first cases of local coronavirus transmission. Hamas has imposed a blockade of the border coastal territory of Israel and Egypt, which is home to two million Palestinians.
Israel and Egypt imposed a blockade in Gaza after Hamas took the strength of rival Palestinian forces in 2007. Israel says the blockade is to prevent Hamas from expanding its arsenal, but critics see it as a form of collective punishment.
Israel and Hamas have fought three wars and several minor battles since the closure was imposed.
Restrictions have brought the local economy to a point of collapse, leaving more than a portion of the population unemployed, and years of war and isolation have left the fitness formula ill-equipped to deal with a primary epidemic.
