Abu Dhabi: An army of 3,500 workers have been taking part in a major sanitisation operation at the Grand Mosque in Mecca ahead of the Haj, Saudi media reported.
The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques has been overseeing a programme to disinfect, sterilise and perfume the Grand Mosque to welcome the reduced number pilgrims performing the rituals this year.
The sterilisation operations have been intensified around the clock at the Grand Mosque and its courtyards, which are being washed 10 times daily to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, officials said.
Workers for the department responsible for cleaning the carpets at the Grand Mosque have used more than thousands of litres of eco-friendly sanitisation solutions and scores of equipment for the daily cleaning operations at the holy site.
