ATHENS (Reuters) – Greece will ban flights to and from Barcelona from Monday, the fitness government said Friday, as they prolonged maximum restrictions for foreign visitors for 3 weeks due to the accumulation of COVID-19 infections.
The accumulation of coronavirus cases in recent weeks has forced the Greek government to reimpose restrictions on the capital Athens and other regions, adding popular islands at the height of the tourist season to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Greece also requests a list of countries, adding Belgium, Bulgaria, Romania, Malta, Sweden, Spain, Albania, Northern Macedonia and the United Arab Emirates, to provide a negative COVID-19 check to enter the country.
The restrictions will last until 19 September, Deputy Civil Protection Minister Nikos Hardalias told the press, adding that the Netherlands would be removed from the list. Flights to and from Barcelona and the Spanish region of Catalonia will be prohibited, he said.
