Yes, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (right) literally “said it” at a recent press conference. He claimed that those who had gained the bivalent Covid-19 boosters are “more likely to be inflamed”, possibly with severe acute respiratory syndrome. coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Specifically, De Governor said, “[Florida Surgeon General] Joe Ladapo can communicate about it a little bit more. As almost every study has said, with those new boosters, you’re more likely to be inflamed with the bivalent booster. What? How is this the case? Well, it’s simple to “DesBunkar” such claims because “all the studies” didn’t say what DeSantis said. In fact, studios have said precisely “DeOpposite”.
If you have a full account of what DeSantis said, watch the video accompanying The Recount’s following tweet:
When you say that “like almost all studies” you say something, you deserve to be able to provide at least some studies to your claim, right? But DeSantis didn’t actually do that.
If DeSantis were known as DeScientist, he would have reviewed all the studies that have evaluated the effectiveness of bivalent covid-19 boosters to date at the press conference, and then explained why he may have come to that conclusion. But DeSantis is neither, a doctor or any other kind of scientist. For example, he mentioned the other 3 studies that measured the effectiveness of bivalent boosters and were published in two separate issues of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR).
The first of those 3 studies, published in the December 2, 2022 MMWR factor, found that older adults aged 18 to 49 who gained the bivalent booster were 30% to 56% less likely to have had symptomatic COVID-19 than those who had gained only two or more doses of the original monovalent Covid-19 vaccine, depending on when these latter teams had won their last dose of monovalent vaccine. 65 and higher were from 28% to 43%.
Then there were the two studies published in the December 30, 2022 MMWR factor. The first of those two effects found that among patients over 65, those who had won the bivalent vaccine were 84% less likely to have been hospitalized. with Covid-19 than those who had not been vaccinated. They were 73% less likely to have been hospitalized than those who had gained only two or more doses of the monovalent vaccine. While some might argue that this study did not, in particular, mention SARS-CoV-2 infection rates, declining hospitalization rates among those who had received bivalent vaccines did not mean they were more likely to become infected.
The Dec. 30 MMWR factor study found that among adults 18 and older, those who gained a bivalent booster were 57 percent less likely to have sought care at an emergency branch or urgent care clinic than those who had not been vaccinated. They were 38% to 45% less likely to have sought such care than those who only got the monovalent vaccine, the diversity depends on when the latter organization obtained its last dose of monovalent vaccine. The examination does not particularly mention SARS-CoV-2 infection rates, its effects would not be consistent with claims that bivalent vaccines increase infection rates.
As you can see, none of those 3 studies suggested that those who won the bivalent vaccine were more likely to have become inflamed with SARS-CoV-2. Studies to date have obviously opposed DeSantis’ claim “like almost all studies. ” These studies were far from perfect. Many other things could have affected the likelihood that other people would get symptomatic Covid-19, go to the emergency room or receive emergency care and be hospitalized. For example, those who received the bivalent vaccine might also be more likely to practice other covid-19 precautions, such as wearing face masks. Therefore, more studies are needed in the future.
Of course, bivalent covid-19 vaccines are far from the best and rightly so have had their detractors. For example, on January 11, 2023, the New England Journal of Medicine published a Perspective article through Paul A. Offit, M. D. , titled “Bivalent COVID-19 Vaccines: A Warning. “Offit, who is director of the Vaccine Education Center and professor of pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, pointed to studies that have warned that the bivalent vaccine booster doesn’t offer much more coverage than some other monovalent vaccine boosters. The jury has not yet decided on the effectiveness of the bivalent reinforcements. The resolution to implement bivalent mRNA vaccines over other features, such as updated monovalent vaccines, raised concerns.
Still, neither Offit nor any other true vaccine expert has advised that getting the bivalent booster would in any way increase your chances of getting infected. to show the express studies. Otherwise, you can spread misinformation, which in turn can put many other people at risk. And that would be the “undeniable” truth.
