Government re-opened Kartarpur room due to decreased coronavirus cases

As the Covid-19 scenario improved across the country, the government reopened the Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib room for Sikh pilgrims around the world, and visitors would be required to meet the standards of fitness and protection presented through the Government of Pakistan.

The devout site closed in March after the Covid-19 case outbreak, recently the Gurdwara reopened only to local pilgrims, provided they complied with popular operating procedures (PCOs).

Sikh pilgrims from India will also be able to make a stopover in the Gurdwara under a 2019 agreement signed through the two neighbouring countries. A notification issued through the Ministry of Religious Affairs stated that Indian pilgrims can stop at the site from dusk and are asked to comply with Covid-19 safety guidelines.

The Kartarpur Room is of great importance to the Sikh community, as it connects the two Sikh sites: Darbar Sahib in Pakistan and Dera Baba Nanak Shrine in Gurdaspur, India.

There the devoted Sikh leader, Baba Guru Nanak, was established after his missionary journeys in 1521, where he lived for 18 years until his death in 1539.
