In a world where everyone from doctors to flight attendants and political leaders suffers from masks, a Goa-based designer has developed a modular mask prototype that comes with a bachelor strap and is comfortable to wear. The prototype can provide much-desired relief to those who need the Covid-19 pandemic most.
Deepak Pathania, a commercial designer in southern Goa, has designed an exclusive “multi-mask” for full coverage as opposed to Covid-19 which, he says, will be a “one-stop shop” for long-term mask requirements.
The face protector adapts to the mask and remains in its position attached to the mask that is attached to the face, allowing the user to simply wear it or remove it if the face shield is needed.

“The face screen can simply be placed on the mask if required without any strap. The user’s speech did not drown because it circulated only through the filter, without going through the face screen. All parts of the mask can be washed without problems and minimize biological waste. The mask can also be custom designed later with accessories like electronic filter, audio/video recording, etc. , which puts it in a position for the future,” Pathania said.
Pathania works with a Pune-based design company for the ultimate design, tooling and production process.
Pathania, who honed her skills at the National Design Institute, has already filed a patent application for the device after checking whether a similar mask was designed anywhere in the world.
His start-up company, Med Interventions and Beyond Pvt Ltd, is currently in incubation at the Business Incubation and Acceleration Center, Goa (CIBA).
