Global Citizen, NSIA launch Nigeria Solidarity Support Fund for Nigerians

The foreign advocacy organization Global Citizen and the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) have teamed up to create the Nigerian Solidarity Support Fund (NSSF), a Nigerian fund for Nigerians to combat the devastating effects and restrictions on other Nigerians in COVID-19..

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an effect on the lives of all Nigerians, physical conditioning systems are out of date and they need critical support.

The Nigerian Solidarity Support Fund was established to help vulnerable groups, Nigeria’s fitness systems and re-train Nigerian youth for a post-COVID-19 era.

“We all have a role to play in the lives of our fellow Nigerians. Now is the time for us to make a difference, whether it’s a business or an individual, there’s a role for you.

For this fund to be a success, we want the whole country for us and make donations. This fund was created through Nigerians, for Nigerians for the well-being of our country,” said Tijani Babatunde Folawiyo, president of Global Citizen Nigeria.

With an initial purpose of $50 million, the NSSF hopes to collect donations from Nigerians in the country such as the diaspora, multilateral organizations, philanthropists, UFOs, businesses, the public sector and foreign companies.

Grants will be granted to finance projects that meet NSSF’s 3 core objectives. The fund will target Nigeria’s most vulnerable communities and will vary according to the projects we decide through the Nigeria Solidarity Support Fund Statutory Council, which will set up caps and caps for subsidies.

The NSSF has known 3 objectives to respond to COVID-19, mitigation, recovery and resilience:

1.Support vulnerable maxims: the budget will aim to mitigate the demanding situations facing vulnerable maxims: the maximums disproportionately affected through COVID-19, which suffer from underlying aptitude problems; those with limited-to-affordable fitness services, low-income ones, casual and unsafe jobs, or internally displaced persons; and those who provide physical care and other essential services.

2.Strengthening fitness systems: the budget will build and modernize existing fitness care infrastructure and provide sustainable capacity for long-term reaction and containment efforts.

3.Retraining and retrofitting Nigerians: The budget will help the progression of human capital to fill the skills gap needed for the country’s hard labour market and meet the demands of a converting workforce in the future.after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The CNSS is subject to a three-tier governance formula aimed at ensuring that all contributions to the Fund are recognized, accounted for and well managed, and ensuring that all disbursements are aligned with the Fund’s mandate and that they have an effect on is measured and reported.

Led through a statutory board of experienced and reputable members, the NSSF is administered independently and transparently controlled through a fund control formula that aims to ensure that all contributions are administered and distributed in a responsible manner so that as much as possible has an effect on combating the COVID-19 pandemic and mitigating its effects.

“We have an incredibly experienced and highly esteemed board of directors actively participating in the Trust’s day-to-day control.

The team has worked tirelessly on the scenes to ensure that all mandatory procedures and approval are in position for a transparent fund and to give all donors peace of mind that their budget goes directly to those who want it most.

We are all very proud of what we have created and hope that all Nigerians will do so now,” said Uche Orji, Managing Director and CEO of NSIA.
