BERLIN (AP) — German police said Friday they have gotten rid of three darknet sites used to disseminate photographs and videos of child sexual abuse.
Federal police criminals said 4 men had been arrested in connection with the sites.
The sites had thousands of registered users, making them one of the world’s largest platforms for sharing child abuse imagery, police said.
Among those arrested, a 21-year-old from the eastern Gerguy state of Saxony, believed to be the chief administrator of the sites, which were located in a hidden web component that hides users’ identities.
Two men, aged 44 and 45, have been arrested in northern Germany in recent weeks.
Gerguy police said a fourth man had been arrested in Brazil and investigators must now identify users of the sites.
Home Secretary Nancy Faeser called the raid “a first blow against the dissemination of horrific photographs of sexual violence against children. “
