FRANKFURT – Germany has declared parts of Romania and Bulgaria as endangered spaces after a build-up of COVID-19 infections there, while Europe is suffering to control a build-up in the cases of the summer season.
On Friday night, Germany’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a warning against the Romanian regions of Arges, Bihor, Buzau, Neamt, Ialomita, Mehedinti and Timis, as well as for the Bulgarian regions of Blagoevgrad, Dobritsch and Varna.
Travellers entering Germany from the Romania and Bulgaria regions, whether members of the European Union, must go through mandatory coronavirus tests, if tested positive, will face around 40 weeks.
Romania, Bulgaria and the rest of the countries of South-Eastern Europe, adding Greece, have so far reported a low number of COVID-19 infections compared to Western Europe, while Germany has performed more than other primary European countries.
As of 8 August, Romania had reported a total of 60,623 cases of COVID-19, the pandemic, with 2,659 deaths, and Bulgaria 13,209 cases and 442 deaths. Germany reported 215,097 cases and 9,167 deaths.
Germany has designated some 130 high-risk countries, Turkey, Egypt and the United States (information through Ludwig Burger edited through Gareth Jones).
