BERLIN (AP) – German police searched more than 60 homes and businesses in five states in the early hours of Wednesday in connection with the alleged illegal trafficking of migrants destined for the meat industry.
The Federal Police said in a statement that their investigation focused on two other transitional paint corporations that allegedly trafficked 82 people, basically from Eastern Europe to Germany over the past six months.
No one was arrested during raids in east and northern Germany, but investigators confiscated documents and other evidence.
Ten suspects are accused of falsifying documents and registering as fake college academics who claim to paint in vacation jobs.
The ten most sensitive suspects are between the age of 41 and 56. Their identities were given, but police said the 8 men and two women were from Poland, Ukraine, Russia and Kosovo. Police estimate that the suspects generated about 1. 5 million euros ($1. 75). million) in benefits through its illegal plan.
During the raids, police arrested more than 20 employees for allegedly false student documents.
Several larger outbreaks of coronavirus in German meat-packing plants have recently revealed that many workers, mostly migrants, are exploited and live in desolate and overcrowded conditions.
