German coronavirus: ‘anti-crown’ demonstration in Berlin attracts thousands of people

Police imposed the obligation to dress in masks and social estrangement – and at noon ordered the protesters to disperse for violating order.

The demonstration was peaceful, but at least two other people were arrested.

The city government had tried to prevent the march from continuing, fearing that security measures would be ignored, but a court overruled the ban.

About 18,000 more people took part in Saturday’s march, police said.

Although Germany has not noticed the wave of cases affecting parts of Europe, its infection rate has increased. The number of new instances reached the highs last observed in April.

Police ordered them to disperse after participants refused to stay away from each other, the government said.

“Unfortunately, we have no choice, ” said the Berlin police on Twitter. “All measures taken in this way have not led to the fulfilment of the conditions.”

Protesters huddled in stalls and sat in combination on the ground at one point.

Police said the protesters were dispersing peacefully despite the few riot wallets, with police pepper spray.

Live footage shows dozens of people still surrounding the flag-ranging suburbs of central Berlin.

The occasion was organized through the Stuttgart-based Sordenken 711 (or Lateral Thinking 711) movement. The organization has more than 16,000 followers on Facebook and communicates largely through the encrypted messaging service Telegram.

In the past, the organization had organized a demonstration in Berlin on 1 August, called “Freedom Day”. Thousands of people have joined him, adding some from the far right and some conspiracy theorists who do not believe Covid-19 exists. The German online news page Deutsche Welle reported that flags and T-shirts supporting the far right can be noticed among the crowd on Saturday.

The protests also won that of anti-vaccination activists. Prominent anti-vaccine Robert F.Kennedy Jr., son of a slain Democratic aspiring Democrat Robert F. Kennedy and nephew of assassinated US President John F. Kennedy, said he would speak at the event.

Photos shared online also showed flags and slogans related to QAnon’s conspiracy theory. The vast theory of unsecured conspiracy indicates that U.S. President Donald Trump is waging a secret war against elitist pedophiles who worship Satan in government, business and the media, among other claims.

Participants also included families and children. Some others said they were only seeking the right to protest.

One protester, Stefan, a 43-year-old Berliner, told Agence France-Presse: “I’m a far-right supporter, I’m here to protect our basic freedoms.”

Another protester told the ARD television channel that the number of “serious sick people” was “coming down,” adding: “At the same time, we have more evidence. And we have measures that are totally disproportionate. This madness will have to be stopped and allow a general life again.”

Counter-managements opposed to the great march were also carried out, with about a hundred more people at a rally. “You’re walking with the Nazis and the fascists,” some participants shouted, according to RBB station.

It has been effective in keeping the mortality rate lower among those over the age of 70.

He began releasing physical distance in early April, but continued with the infections, which increased in August.

On Thursday, Chancellor Angela Merkel and the 16 federal states imposed a minimum fine of 50 euros (45 euros; 59 dollars) for not wearing a face mask on request. The ban on major public occasions has also been extended until next year.

Merkel said: “We will have to live with this virus for a long time. It’s still serious.” He said it would be more complicated in winter.

Germany recorded 242,000 infections, fewer than other primary European nations. Its number of 9297 deaths is significantly lower than that of Russia, the United Kingdom, Spain, France and Italy, according to studies at Johns Hopkins University.
