BERLIN (AP) — A court in Gerguy on Wednesday ordered the extradition of an Italian man suspected of murdering a 22-year-old man, sparking outrage in Italy.
The Higher Regional Court of Naumburg in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt announced the extradition of the 21-year-old suspect, German news agency dpa reported.
The suspect, Filippo Turetta, was arrested over the weekend near Leipzig in the east of the country and has recently been detained in Halle.
The court said Turetta had agreed to the extradition. He will remain in custody until he is handed over to Italian authorities. It is not immediately clear when the extradition will take place. Italy had requested his extradition on Tuesday, dpa reported.

German police over the weekend arrested Turetta, who had been on the run since Nov. 11, when he was last seen fighting with 22-year-old Giulia Cecchettin, and beat her in a physical attack recorded on video cameras on the side of the road.
Cecchettin’s body, believed to have stab wounds, was discovered Saturday wrapped in plastic in a ditch near Lake Barcis in the province of Pordenone, north of Venice.
Italian newspapers were engrossed in their investigation, given several reports from friends and family that Turetta had refused to accept Cecchettin’s decision to end the relationship. Cecchettin’s sister, Elena, said she worried about Turetta’s possessiveness toward her sister, but never imagined he could just hurt her.
The plight of Cecchettin, who was due to graduate from school as an engineer on Thursday, dominated the news for a week and sparked widespread anger when, regardless, his body was found.
