Nov 20 (UPI) — At least 12 other people were killed overnight in the Israeli shelling of the Indonesian hospital in Gaza, north of the Gaza Strip, and many people were trapped inside as Israeli forces approached the facility, the Gaza government said.
“Indonesian hospital officials insist that he will remain to treat the wounded. There are about 700 people, including doctors and wounded, inside the hospital,” said Ashraf al-Qudra, a spokesman for the Health Ministry.
He said the hospital was attacked and his post-operative care unit was damaged.
Health officials said they were rushing to evacuate civilians, while the hospital insisted there were no armed Hamas or Islamic Jihad fighters at the scene.
Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry condemned Israel’s moves and suggested Israel’s allies exert their influence to get it to control its army.
“This attack is a flagrant violation of humanitarian law,” Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said at a news conference.
“All countries, especially those that have close relations with Israel, will have to use all their influence and functions to urge Israel to end its atrocities. “
Speaking from Beijing, where he is taking part in a peace summit, Marsudi added that there are fears for the protection of three Indonesian nationals who are volunteering at the Indonesian hospital and whom the government has not been able to contact.
The assembly of the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Palestine and the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation aimed to promote a swift ceasefire and the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid, he said.
Earlier, the IDF released videos and stills from October 7 that it said showed two hostages at Al-Shifa Hospital. Spokesman Daniel Hagari presented photographs and photographs that he said showed Hamas fighters carrying the hostages, a Nepali and a Thai, to the hospital.
The Israeli military on Sunday released a video from the Al-Shifa compound showing what it said is a tunnel shaft leading to an underground tunnel.
