North Carolina reported 20,480 new coronavirus cases in the week ending Sunday, down 6. 5 from last week. Last week there were 21,899 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.

North Carolina ranked ninth among states where the coronavirus spread the fastest, according to a study by Johns Hopkins University’s USA TODAY data network. Over the past week, coronavirus cases in the United States have declined 4. 7% since the week since, with 507,209 cases reported. With 3. 15 percent of the nation’s population, North Carolina recorded 4. 04 percent of the nation’s cases last week. Nationwide, 3 states have had more cases in the week since than in the week since.

In North Carolina, the worst weekly outbreaks per user occurred in Graham County with 640 cases per 100,000 per week; Surry County with 429; and Anson County with 368. The Centers for Disease Control says the network’s highest levels of transmission start at 100 instances per 100,000 per week.

The addition of the largest number of new instances in all of Wake County, with 2011 instances; Mecklenburg County, with 1940 instances; and Guilford County, with 964. The number of weekly instances increased in 37 counties compared to last week. The worst increases from last week’s speed occurred in Watauga, Stanly and Cumberland counties.

In North Carolina, another 30 people were reported to have died of COVID-19 in the week ending Sunday. Last week, another 492 people died.

A total of another 3,141,302 people in North Carolina have tested positive for the coronavirus since the pandemic began, and another 26,365 people have died from the disease, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. In the United States, another 95,250,705 people tested positive and 1,050,323 other people died.
