Full lockdown in Tamil Nadu for two weeks from Monday
Chief Minister M. K. Stalin said in a statement that the blockade was being implemented for “unavoidable reasons” and under pressure that the resolution was taken based on input obtained at a review meeting he held with the district’s creditors on Friday, as well as consultations with medical experts.
“The general lockdown will be implemented from the morning of May 10 to the morning of May 2,” he said.
During the 14-day general lockdown in Tamil Nadu, only the essentials will be allowed to operate.
From May 10, large vegetable, meat and fish stores, as well as transit department stores will remain open until noon. All other outlets will remain closed. State-owned liquor department store Tasmac will close the 14-day full lockdown in Tamil Nadu.
Restaurants will be allowed to open for takeout services only. Petrol and diesel berths will remain open during the lockdown.
Tamil Nadu recorded 26,465 new coronavirus cases on Friday, bringing the number of cases to 13. 23 lakh, while a record 197 deaths in the past 24 hours brought the number of cases to 15,171. According to the Ministry of Health, active cases stand at 1,35,355. Tamil Nadu is among 12 states that have lately had more than one million active COVID-19 cases, according to the central government.
