From dynamic to fragile: two days in Las Vegas with Biden positive

The president’s appearance and the momentum of his crusade dramatically replaced a two-day era in Nevada that was cut short when he tested positive for Covid.

Zolan Kanno-Youngs traveled aboard Air Force One with President Biden to Nevada and was in the motorcade when the president tested positive for Covid.

President Biden emerged from Air Force One at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware on Wednesday, wearing a cap and bomber jacket, but no mask, holding on with his right hand. He took two steps down the stairs before stopping, then pointed and waved in front of him, his mouth open.

He took two more steps and stopped again. He turned to the left and raised his hands when he saw reporters piled up near the plane’s engine.

Another ten more steps and Mr. Biden reached the ground. Journalists shouted questions at him, not easy ones from the Democrats who had demanded that he withdraw from the presidential race.

“I’m fine,” Biden said, giving a thumbs up.

But a video captured via ABC News showed Biden suffering while sitting in the presidential limousine, known as the Beast. It took about 23 seconds before it was installed, according to the images.

The president’s appearance – and the dynamics of his crusade – was dramatic in two days.

When he began his campaigns this week, Biden and his senior team remained defiant, and hopefully dismissed concerns within their party about Biden’s condition.

Aiming to energize Black and Latino voters, Biden left Air Force One in Nevada on Monday, flanked by Rep. James Clyburn of South Carolina, the influential Democrat who helped revive his 2020 campaign. The president was immediately surrounded by more than a dozen Democrats and local officials in a show of support.
