More than just a best-school football game, the East Los Angeles Classic brings together the East Los Angeles community to inspire history. The rivalry between two of the first established high schools in Eastside L. A. , James A. Garfield Senior High School and Theodore Roosevelt High School. As a long-standing rivalry since 1925, the same year Garfield was established, it is a culture in East L. A. community. for almost a century.
On October 21, 2022, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum lit up red and blue as the Black Eyed Peas held the 2022 East Los Angeles halftime. Angeles applauded the Garfield Bulldogs or the Roosevelt Rough Riders.
