France surpasses 8,000 new coronavirus infections in the day

Twelve other people died from the disease on Friday, bringing France’s total to 30,698, while the cumulative number of cases is now 317,706, the Ministry of Health said.

Friday’s figure had set a new record for new infections since the disease began spreading in the country at the end of winter.

This happened when the French Ministry of Education announced that 22 schools had been closed in France and its territories due to the Covid-19 epidemic, just days after 12 million students returned to school before this week.

Paris and other cities have demanded a mask in all public spaces, adding to young people over the age of 11 who returned to school this week.

But citizens of some cities have retreated, looking for gentle regulations for masks in public, for example, at night or in spaces where crowds do not gather.

On Friday, a court in the city of Lyon, in the southeast of the country, ordered the government to revoke regulations to take account of “local circumstances”, for now the strict requirement remains in force.

In France, anyone can access a covid-19 check on the loose and without an appointment; however, check sites in Paris have faced long waiting times this week, and tourists return home after the summer holidays in July and August.
