PARIS – The French government is sending police to Marseille rule to help enforce mask requirements, as more cities and neighborhoods impose mask regulations from Monday to stem the rise of infections.
Government spokesman Gabriel Attal announced on Monday that 130 police officers would be sent to the Marseille area, expanding their masking needs to all farmers markets and other neighborhoods on Friday.
France has noticed incidents of violence scattered across other people who refuse to wear a mask. Paris expanded their masking needs on Saturday and other cities in France began wearing outdoor masks on Monday.
Infections have accelerated in France in recent days, with 3,015 new cases on Sunday, one of the highest peaks since the country lifted a strict two-month blockade in May.
More than 30,400 more people have died with the virus in France, one of the world’s death rates.
