Former Republican Senator Who Voted Against COVID-19 Aid Long Resigned Covid

Former Republican Senator James Inhofe, who retired late last year, announced he was suffering from symptoms of long Covid after continuously voting against Covid-19 relief packages.

Inhofe, who has represented Oklahoma for decades in the House and Senate, told Tulsa World he left the Senate because of the lingering effects of contracting Covid-19.

“Another five or six have (prolonged COVID), but I’m the only one who admits it,” he said. Sen. Tim Kaine, the Democratic senator from Virginia, said last year that he suffers from the lingering effects of Covid-19. .

Inhofe, 88, retired earlier this year from the Senate. His term is not over. Sen. Markwayne Mullin, a Republican, replaced him.

Throughout his tenure as a senator, Inhofe voted against helping other people and businesses during the covid-19 pandemic, HuffPost reported. formerly known as the Food Stamp Program, it expanded unemployment benefits and granted paid leave for health problems to those affected by Covid-19.

Inhofe voted in favor of the CARES Act around the same time, which introduced relief to families, $1,200 stimulus checks and the paycheck coverage program, which introduced loans to businesses affected by the pandemic in an effort to keep workers on the payroll. It also voted for a Covid-19 Relief Bill in December 2020 that featured $600 stimulus checks, among other provisions. Former President Donald Trump signed off on any of the pandemic expenses.

But Inhofe voted against the U. S. bailout, which included a $1400 stimulus check, unemployment benefits and provisions to distribute vaccines.

Mr. Inhofe has stood out in his tenure in the Senate for being a staunch denier of the effects of climate change, adding that he threw a snowball on the floor of the U. S. Senate. He was chairman of the Senate Environment Committee.
