Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain dies of COVID-19

July 30 (UPI) – Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain died of COVID-19, he announced Thursday on his online page. He was 74.

Cain, who ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, said last month that he tested positive and was hospitalized two days later.

Co-chair of Black Voices for Trump, he attended President Donald Trump’s rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, last month and posted a photo showing him sitting with other participants in a face mask.

Trump’s crusade said before the occasion that six members had tested positive.

A on Cain’s Twitter account after his diagnosis said there was “no way to know for sure how and where” the virus contained him.

Former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza, briefly regarded as a favorite in the 2012 Republican Party. He eventually suspended his crusade amid accusations of having a 13-year extramarital affair with an Atlanta businesswoman, which he denied.

Cain survived a war with complex colon cancer a year earlier. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Etchison, and two children.
