Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi underwent coronavirus testing on Wednesday (September 2) and is recently isolated at home, according to his team.

Despite his infection, the 83-year-old media tycoon promises to quote “keep fighting” and says he will continue to present candidates from his opposition party of Centroderecha Forza Italia in the local elections in September.

Berlusconi’s doctor told an Italian news firm that the former minister had no symptoms.

He would take the COVID-19 test after a recent holiday in Sardinia, which saw a drastic increase in infections in August, as more domestic travelers stop at the island’s beaches.

Berlusconi, who has been Prime Minister of Italy four times, won the wishes of all political circles.

Among them is Luigi Di Maio, minister of foreign affairs and former leader of the anti-system party, Movement 5 Stars, who fought a fierce crusade in Berlusconi.

Italy has one of the worst coronavirus outbreaks in Europe, recording more than 270,000 infections and more than 35,000 deaths.

Although the country controlled to involve contagion after its peak in March and April, it reported an increase in cases in August.
