Food shortages will lead to higher poultry costs in Kazakhstan – NOPA

In Kazakhstan, there is a shortage of protein-rich poultry feed: flour and oil cakes. This will lead to higher costs for eggs and poultry, and may even cause the total closure of the fat and oil and poultry businesses, predicts the National Association of Oilseed Processors (NOPA).

The agreement says that about 80 percent of oilseed processing capacity is concentrated in Kazakhstan’s eastern region and that transporting products within the country by road is successful due to long distances, low capacity and high tariffs.

According to NOPA, today the shortage of vans with top hatch (for flour/cake) is at least 310 units, and 55 vans are needed for the shipment of bottled sunflower oil.

If the scenario is not resolved as soon as possible, the market will face even more global problems. There will be a reduction in production or plant closures in the fats and oils, poultry and live inventory industries. In fact, food inventories made up of those corporations are almost depleted. The scenario is compounded by the fact that rolling inventory operators are primarily guilty of transporting grain and processed products.

NOPA, as well as the Union of Poultry Breeders of Kazakhstan, have already asked Atameken, KTZ JSC and Kaztemirtrans JSC for a quick solution to this challenge, but have not yet obtained a response. Only a quick solution to the existing challenge will make it imaginable to maintain existing costs and avoid product shortages, the association stresses.
