The European Union publishes its full 16 pages setting out its position for the EU-Israel Association Council assembly in Brussels.
While praising EU-Israel cooperation on COVID-19, energy, Mediterranean security, cybersecurity, industry and more, much of the document criticizes Israel for its policy towards the Palestinians. Some 21 of the 54 paragraphs deal with the Palestinians, the use of force and the peace process.
The EU expresses fear over the death of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, the loss of life in the recent August fighting circular, the situation in Gaza, the devoted prestige quo in Jerusalem and the settlements, among other similar issues.
He condemned “the indiscriminate firing of rockets through Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and other terrorist groups,” while affirming Israel’s right to self-defense and calling for the release of Israelis detained in Gaza.
The EU calls Iran “central to security in the region,” while saying its armed proxies are a significant source of instability. The documents continue. ” This could further inspire a constructive strategy in the region and provide a platform for additional efforts to build and build trust. “
On Ukraine, the EU “welcomes Israel’s assistance to Ukraine and its citizens, adding the provision of a defensive military apparatus and humanitarian aid. “
The EU extensively discusses its commitment to fighting anti-Semitism and “the growing importance of Holocaust remembrance and civic education in countering the progression of anti-Semitic prejudices and stereotypes. “
