As the expansion of Florida’s coronavirus instances slowed Saturday, medical teams criticized President Donald Trump for repeating a conspiracy theory that doctors inflate the number of COVID-19 deaths to bring the proceeds of a pandemic to life.
“You know, our doctors make more money if someone dies of COVID. You know, don’t you?” said Trump Friday at a rally in Michigan, resurrecting a fact he had done for weeks. “I mean, our doctors are very wise people. . . . so what they’re doing is saying, ‘I’m sorry, but, you know, everybody dies of COVID. ‘”
Calling the claims “malicious and un baseless,” the Florida Medical Association condemned the president’s statements.

“The fact is that our country’s doctors have selflessly endangered their own health and protection by treating COVID-19 patients,” the association’s president, Dr. Mike Patete, said in a statement. “Many doctors, nurses and frontline fitness staff lost their lives serving our network in this pandemic. Like most of our fellow citizens, doctors have also suffered significant monetary losses over the past 8 months.
In Florida, the death rate has been as alarming recently as the rate of new cases and the rate of positivity, which shows whether more evidence is causing new cases.
After six weeks in which the daily rate of positive cases across the state averaged 4. 7%, slightly below the 5% threshold that medical experts criticize, it has risen to 5. 6% on average over the past seven days, adding 6. 3% on Saturday.

But they are adamant that even though hospitals are getting more federal cash to cover the high prices of protecting and treating critical patients by COVID-19, doctors aren’t screwing up.
