CALGARY – A homeless person from Calgary reports an outbreak of COVID-19.
The Calgary Day Center said wednesday, five other people who stayed at its main shelter downtown tested positive for the new coronavirus.
He says more than 140 consumers and one hundred workers have been evaluated since the shelter first reported its case a week ago.
People expect the effects in a hotel that serves as a place of assisted isolation, as well as in the satellite shelter of the day center.
Last month, the Alberta government announced $48 million in new investments for shelters and networking organizations that help the homeless.
The province specified how cash is distributed or how many spaces it can create.
Social and Community Services Minister Rajan Sawhney said overflowing shelter sites at Calgary and Edmonton conference centers would be reactivated as a call to increase in the winter.
The province closed the transitional shelters at the Telus Convention Center in Calgary and the Edmonton Exhibition Center this summer, and Sawhney said overflow features were being considered.
