Actress Maria Bello and Michelin-starred chef Dominique Crenn said they owed their adventure to the “three C’s”: cancer, Covid and, now, commitment.

Dominique Isabel Pascale Crenn receives countless direct messages on Instagram from others looking to get a table at her San Francisco restaurant, Atelier Crenn. She doesn’t respond.
But when Maria Elaina Bello sent her a DM in April 2018, the message resonated with her.
Lorraine Silvera, Bello’s friend and foodie, had set her sights on Crenn in the Netflix documentary series “Chef’s Table. “Silvera and Ms. Bello were flying to San Francisco from Los Angeles to dine at Atelier Crenn, but reservations were full.
Bello, 57, messaged Crenn, 59, on Instagram: “My friend Lolo, who opened the first Italian eating place in Cap-Haitien, Haiti, is coming to visit me next week and needs nothing more than to eat his divine food. We will fly in from Los Angeles on Thursday if it is possible to enter the restaurant.
As it happens, Crenn had traveled to Haiti last year with her friend Michelle Jean, who is Haitian, to visit farmers affected by Hurricane Matthew, which devastated the country in October 2016. Their efforts to rebuild infrastructure included planting trees for coffee and cocoa. farmers. Mrs. Crenn felt compelled to respond to Mrs. Bello, and she made room in the dining room for herself and her friend.
“It’s the most delicious food I’ve ever eaten in my life,” Bello said. “She was so kind that we knew that night we would be friends forever. But I don’t go to a meeting place. She’s not in a hangout. “
Ms. Crenn testified that she immediately felt with Ms. Bello and that Ms. Bello gave her a hug that put her at ease. “Sometimes, especially in my industry, a lot of other people come to the restaurant and everyone wants to be their friends. Crenn said.
