First doses of COVID-19 vaccine in Africa

Covax has delivered its first doses of the Covid-19 vaccine in a vital step for the ambitious program for vaccine progress and ensuring equitable distribution. Vaccines and other devices are transported around the world through UNICEF as part of the Covax Facility’s efforts to ensure equitable access to Covid-19 vaccines. Covax is led through Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), with UNICEF blamed for vaccine procurement and delivery. It is the only global initiative running with governments and brands to ensure COVID-19 vaccines are available worldwide for high- and low-income countries. As of March 1, COVID-19 cases shown in 55 African countries totaled 3,897,307. Reported deaths in Africa have reached 103,706 and another 3,469,842 people have recovered.
