The shipment was processed through Al Madina Logistics Services Company, one of Oman’s leading warehousing and logistics service providers, as well as the operator of the Sultanate of Oman’s dry port.
Muscat – Less than a month after its official launch on its Duqm Special Economic Zone site, the Omani-Qatari joint venture Karwa Motors announced the export of its first batch of “Made in Oman” buses to Doha over the weekend.
The shipment was handled through Al Madina Logistics Services Company (AMLS), a leading Omani provider of warehousing and logistics services, as well as the operator of the Sultanate of Oman’s dry port.
A first batch of 34 buses transported to the Al Madina logistics centre in Sohar, from where the buses were loaded into a shipment bound for Port Hamad in Doha, Qatar.
In a message posted on Thursday, Mahmood Sakhi al Balushi, CEO of AMLS Group, said: “We thank Karwa Motors for accepting AMLS as true and religious and we are proud to have been part of this project. These buses mean a first of several levels; the first made in Oman, the first taken from the Karwa Motor meeting line in Duqm and the first effectively delivered to the visitor in Qatar.
He added: “This movement was controlled through our professional team of freight forwarders and facilitated through our dry port at the AMLS logistics centre in Sohar, before the cars set out on their adventure towards the port of Hamad. “
Mikel Ecenarro, Chief Operating Officer of Karwa Motors LLC, commented: “The AMLS team has been very proactive in managing this first batch and has demonstrated its procedural skills for a new company (and industry) in Oman. As pioneers in the automotive production box in the country, we are comfortable with the skills and hobby that AMLS has demonstrated to grow this business in the region.
A joint venture between the Oman Investment Authority (30%) and Moalat Qatar (70%), Karwa Motors was officially launched on June 23, 2022 in the presence of senior officials from both countries, as well as their senior executives representing shareholders.
Established with an investment of $71 million, it is the first plant of its kind committed to meeting buses and passenger coaches, and a possible cornerstone of a long-term automotive production sector planned in the Sultanate of Oman.
With an area of more than 560,000 square meters, the plant is supplied to group 3 other types of buses: city buses, school buses and intercity buses, with a length of 8 to 12 meters, with seats ranging from 30 to 55 seats. Production at full capacity is estimated at 700 buses per year, with sufficient dominance for the production of electric buses and other automotive goods.
The plant’s initial will be used in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which will open in Qatar later this year.
