A TOTAL of 181 front-line Filipinos and volunteers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) participated in phase 3 trials of a 2019 coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine, the Foreign Ministry (DFA) announced on Monday.

The Philippine ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Hjayceelyn Quintana, praised and thanked the Filipino nurses who helped conduct the trials and the Filipino who volunteered for the vaccine.
The United Arab Emirates was one of the first countries to adopt a phase 3 trial for a possible vaccine against Covid-19. The tested vaccine evolved through the Chinese company Sinopharm.
Quintana recently visited the Group’s fitness center (G) at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, where Dr. Waleed Zaher, G’s Director of Research, explained the vaccine testing procedure.
The G42 has 181 Filipino leaders (180 nurses and a doctor) in the Covid-19 vaccine trials.
Since July 16, the possible vaccine has been administered to more than 15,000 people of other nationalities, adding Filipino volunteers.
