Grover also designed the archaeological site of Hod Hasharon, a quiet town south of the city of Ra’anana in central Israel. The centerpiece of a captivating small park with benches, trees, plants and flowers, the lawn features antiques from farmers’ lives long ago as an ancient roof well, the oldest known type of olive grinder (saflul) and the oldest known formula for urgent oil (bodida).
Hod Hasharon is home to a fabulous ecological park with everything for everyone, located right in the middle of town, is perfectly maintained and includes trails, a creek full of catfish, a lake, a bridge, training equipment, perspectives and lawn. .
Thousands of years ago, an abandoned hill in central Israel was very busy. Called, today, Givat Titora, some experts consider it the ancient Modi’in, home of the Maccabees who defeated the Greeks and returned the Land of Israel to Jewish control. Others have known it as the biblical Gitaim (“two wine lizards”) discussed through Nehemiah (11:33).
Among the remains of the hill are caves and cisterns covered with vegetation, a watering hole, a Jewish ritual bath (mikvé) and the ruins of a two-story cross castle called Tantara that used Jewish tombstones of the Second Temple on its foundations.
The transformation of the hill in 2018 into archaeological grass by the curator Edna Ayash, where ancient remains are mixed with the herbarium beautification of the hill (magnificent in autumn, winter and spring) and well-preserved or restored artifacts that come with a lizard, ornamental capitals, the stone lintel of a farm and a screw lizard that probably dates back to the 4th and 5th centuries.
Winding trails cross the lawn and a magnificent viewpoint offers amazing perspectives of the domain (probably the explanation of why the Crusaders chose this site for their fortress). An audio consultant in English and Hebrew tells the story of a war that took place near the 1948 War of Independence The best seasons to visit: autumn, winter and spring, where masses of flowers bloom everywhere.
Located next to the Moshav Givat Yeshayahu and next to the offices of the Jewish National Fund, the archaeological lawn is, of course, in a beautiful forest setting. Designed by curator Hagit Neugeborn, it features an ancient farmer’s roll (maagal), the Heavy Door of a Mausoleum, a rolling stone, a donkey mill, an ossary and an elaborate oil press. Heavy roman-era landmarks, with two inscriptions, were brought to the site after the cranes extracted them from their location along the existing Highway 38.
Another charm in Givat Yeshayahu: a platform with picnic tables surrounded by palm trees.
After the Six-Day War of 1967, the devastated Jewish quarter of the Old City uncovered a long process of reconstruction: all kinds of architectural elements were discovered among the rubble, while others were incorporated into later structures. , highlight the lifestyle of affluent citizens who lead a charming life, whose personal and public buildings were sumptuous in the extreme.
Curator Ravit Nenner-Soriano inaugurated the archaeological exhibition a few months ago, despite the coronavirus, with a magnificent collection of artifacts. An exposed inclined column was used to help the arches of the ceiling in the Crusader era; a decorative detail from the Middle Ages called muqarnas hooked circular and square details into a construction. Other antiques come with a beautiful frieze, a decorative ledge and marble bases and capitals.
While the archaeological gardens we explored were marked in Hebrew, the area’s cornea archaeological exhibit features detailed panels in English, Hebrew and Arabic. Visitors can take the opportunity to walk through the area, full of ancient sites such as the Roman Thistle and the wide wall, built through King Hezekiah in the 8th century a. C.
