FDA warns Americans oppose poisonous hand sanitizers amid Covid-19 pandemic

U.S. fitness officials have warned Americans again about a developing list of imported hand sanitizers that may be infected with poisonous chemical methanol.

The Food and Drug Administration said Monday that there are growing reports of injuries from others using (drinking) unauthorized disinfectants, which can lead to blindness, center disorders and death.

The active element that kills germs in valid disinfectants is ethyl alcohol, which is consumable. But some Mexican corporations have replaced it with poisonous methanol, or wood alcohol, which is used as an antifreeze.

The FDA first issued a warning to the customer about last month.

Last week, the firm sent a warning letter to Mexican CV manufacturer Eskbiochem SA to market a disinfectant containing more than 80% methanol and falsely claiming that it was “FDA approved.” The FDA has published a “do not use” list of more than 80 disinfectants on its online page and has blocked their importation. The firm said it was working with stores to pick up the products left on the shelves of US stores. Illegitimate gels do not mention methanol as an element in their packaging.
