Far-right Israeli minister visits disputed holy Jerusalem (media)

JERUSALEM: Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir on Tuesday saw the compound housing the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, a holy site for Jews and Muslims, Israeli media reported.

Ynet news published footage of Ben-Gvir visiting the site under tight security.

Israeli opposition leader and former prime minister Yair Lapid warned that such through Ben-Gvir would cause violence.

Within the complex, the third holiest in Islam after Mecca and Medina and the holiest in Judaism as a remnant of its two ancient temples, only Muslim worship is allowed.
