As the COVID-19 pandemic strengthens, thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions is helping its consumers boost their operations by providing sustainable services and cutting-edge technologies.
“The global economic crisis, the result of the COVID-19 pandemic, has taken power to the next level,” says Philipp Nellessen, ceo of thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions Sub Sahara Africa.
“Technology is for this dynamic. Thanks to our continued investments in human resources and
Although the South African mining industry was not operational at national closure point 5, critical maintenance was allowed. As an essential service provider, thyssenkrupp has provided maintenance and conservation, as well as reconstruction paints for local mines.
The company helped a platinum mine in Limpopo province replace rulos in one of its flagship products, a high-pressure grinding curler (HPGR).
“The scope of the paintings required a reconstruction of the HPGR complex as the installation of the device at the mine site, so it is our biggest task in the national lockout period,” says Nico Erasmus, director of thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions Sub-Operations in Saharan Africa.
“We are very pleased that, even in a situation of complete blocking, we have been able to complete the task in a healthy way and with the right cooperation with our client,” Erasmus says.
In order to remain operational and continue to seamlessly supply customers, thyssenkrupp has implemented all mandatory policies in accordance with COVID-19 government regulations.
These come with ownership of all essential services and strict access protocols for employees, visitors and suppliers in all facilities.
Employees are required to attend compulsory educational sessions, use all mandatory non-public protective devices (PPE), disinfect and maintain their social distance.
Key to operations
A committed COVID-19 committee has been set up to assess developments and hazards related to office and site operating environments.
“With most workers running from home, we faced our fair percentage of challenges, however, the procedure was very well organized, with the IT industry managing it incredibly well making sure everyone supplied on time,” Says Erasmus.
“We only had one day off on our site of the must-have service paint shop. The pandemic has particularly replaced the landscape of paintings, but thanks to our flexibility, painters will continue to make most of their paintings from home, as we continue to offer the same higher degrees of service that our customers expect,” Erasmus adds.
Meanwhile, an optimist Nellessen says there is no doubt that mining will resume in southern Africa.
“The other people here are incredibly brave and avant-garde and companies will find a way out of the crisis. As industry partners, we are here to offer our support.
Despite the difficult times ahead for some industries, the mining sector continues to show expansion and anticipate a resumption and recovery here,” he concluded.
