CHARLESTON, W.Va. Dr. Deborah Birx, head of the White House Work Group on Coronavirus, says coronavirus infections in urban and rural America mark a “new phase” for the pandemic through duplication of calls for face mask and social estrangement.
Birx, speaking about CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday morning, said, “What we see is another March and April. It’s extremely widespread.”
The United States has the highest number of instances in the world with 4.6 million, or a quarter of the total, and 154,361 deaths. Birx said mitigation efforts in the west and south were starting to work, but warned that other people take the virus seriously and take vital protective precautions when cases begin to worsen.
